Groups are divided into three sections, The Junior Company, The Senior Company and 'SO Theatre' our professional young actors company, for those wishing to pursue a career in the arts.
ABOP Young Actors rehearsals are disciplined, fast paced, challenging and students work to high standards in the performing arts. For discerning parents ABOP Young Actors programme is perfect for children and young people who can participate fully in all three genres and will flourish in a company.
Our talented staff, all degree qualified and working within the arts industry, are led by artistic director, Dix Aston and Musical Director Gareth Williams.
ABOP Youth Theatre and Young Actors sessions are often over subscribed so we are unable to reserve places without payment or provide a waiting list. Registering your interest, or dropping the office an email before enrolling your child enables you to confirm if places are available, or auditions are being scheduled. Please do not settle fees without checking if a place is availble as this may incur costs. Once availability has been established places for some projects will be offered on a 'first come, first served' basis, at the point of payment. Others where auditions take place will be offered if candidates meet the criteria. We do not offer a waiting list arrangement.
For Arts Centres, Theatres, Schools and Colleges where specialist drama instructors and Directors may not be available ABOP can also provide a weekly Young Actors Programme, encompassing fun filled drama workshops and youth theatre groups. ABOP can ensure venues are able to present youth theatre performances on either an annual or bi-annual basis. Interested parties should email the office for terms.
Senior Young Actors offers inspirational, challenging performance projects and workshops for young people enabling them to develop performance skills, build confidence and work creatively with other young people. Ensemble playing and solo work allows students to develop their physical, vocal, critical and interpretative skills while exploring their creative and expressive capacities.
Through participation in arts activity, Seniors develop skills which are useful for a career in theatre, but also skills that are transferable to real-life contexts.
Most professional performers will tell you that their most valuable training came from actually doing! Members of 'SO Theatre' benefit from exactly that, performing a variety of theatre productions as part of ABOP's professional season. A truly unique and invaluable experience which pushes performers to deliver excellence 'SO' offers performers a creative opportunity to enhance, perfect and develop their craft under the guidance of professional theatre facilitators and mentors.
