The story of Charlie Bucket, a little boy with no money and a good heart, who dreams wistfully of being able to buy the candy that other children enjoy. Charlie enters into a magical world when he wins one of five 'Golden Tickets' to visit the mysterious chocolate factory owned by the eccentric Willy Wonka and run by his capable crew of Oompa-Loompas. Once behind the gates, a cast of characters join Charlie and Grandpa Joe on a journey to discover that a kind heart is a far finer possession than a sweet tooth.
ABOP are pleased to announce auditions for the Junior and Senior Company Spring Project, where young people will work alongside our professional Creative Team.
Those wishing to audition, must register via this website. Once we have received your child's application we will send you information regarding the audition day and what you will need to bring along. Previous company members you will be advised happy to re register and settle fees.
Don’t worry if your child has never auditioned before, we will make the whole experience fun and put them at ease, it will simply be a class, our staff have lots of experience with young people. There will also be a number of our admin team on hand to answer any questions so please feel free to remain onsite for the entire session if you are at all worried. If you have older children who are used to attending auditions and are happy to be left, or children who settle easily we ask that you remain for the first 15 minutes of the audition in case you are needed and then you will be free to depart. . Children will participate in a group acting/singing workshop. There is nothing to be afraid of. Our Oompa Loompa auditions will be very informal and fun to accommodate little ones.
Those wishing to audition for a principal role will be expected to sing a solo at some point in the class, but again this will be fun enabling your child to remain at ease.
There is no fee payable to audition for the company.
Candidates who have performed with the company in the last three months prior to the audition date may continue or re-join the company without attending an auditon. However the Artistic Director retains the right to refuse a place to any child who it is felt will not meet the criteria or benefit through further involvement. No explaination will be given, or discussion entered into.
PLEASE BE AWARE THAT WE WILL RECORD SOME SECTIONS OF THE AUDITION SESSION....THIS HELPS WHEN A LARGE NUMBER OF CHILDREN ARE AUDITIONING! This recording will remain the property of ABOP and is merely used as a reminder for staff.
If your child is selected to join the cast, they will rehearse here at Shaftesbury Arts Centre or the Trinity, Shaftesbury. The latter is a five minutes walk from the Arts Centre. The rehearsal schedule will remain online and your child will receive their script file at the first rehearsal. Dates and timings of rehearsals may on occasions vary slightly according to the participant’s role in the production, but you will be advised if times need to change a little. e.g. if child is struggling then additional times can be arranged to go over work and ease any anxiety. Children are always happiest if they are well prepared. Principals may be required to remain for an additional hour on some occasions. Advance notification will be given.
If your child is interested in performing and there are current date conflicts please email the office with details to enable us to discuss this with you. We will try to help and accommodate children where we can, but please be aware that children will not be offered leading roles if dates clash. firstname.lastname@example.org
Junior and Senior Company rehearsals are considered “closed” rehearsals. Family and friends are asked to wait outside of the rehearsal area for children. This keeps our noise level and distractions to a minimum. All children will need to be signed in and out of all rehearsals. Children will not be released to anyone other than parents unless otherwise notified in writing, and in advance.
To enable each and every cast member to perform on stage, all participants must attend the staging, technical and dress rehearsals. Children not attending will be unable to perform. No refund will be offered or discussion entered into.
All participants must agree to appear in any media appearances, publicity appearances or photographs/videos at the Director’s discretion. Some projects will have publicity restrictions on them and some may not. Once your child has been offered a place you will be required to sign to allow your children to be photographed. Official photographs will taken by the ABOP appointed professional photographer ONLY and all pictures remain the property of ABOP. No photographs or recordings of rehearsals or performances taken by parents or other parties are allowed. Official photographs cannot be used by any participants without written permission from the Director. Parents will be able to purchase photographs at the end of the project.
Only the first names of children participating in the Project will be used in production publicity and programmes.
